Rekey Locks Tampa, FL
Need to rekey the locks at your home or business? One Man and a Van provides mobile lock rekeying throughout Tampa and surrounding areas.
When we rekey a lock, we modify it so the old key no longer works. You receive a new key that operates the same lock without having to change it.
Whether you’ve recently moved, lost a key, had a tenant move out, or simply don’t know who may still have copies of your keys, call us to have your locks rekeyed.

When Should You Rekey Your Locks?
There are several situations where rekeying can make sense without replacing your existing hardware.
Moved Into a New Home
Even if you received keys at closing, you may not know how many copies were made by previous owners, contractors, cleaners, neighbors or other people. Rekeying lets you keep your existing locks while making the previous keys unusable.
Tenant or Employee Changes
If a tenant moves out or an employee who had a key leaves the business, rekeying can prevent an old key from continuing to provide access.
Lost or Unreturned Keys
If a key has been lost or wasn’t returned, you don’t necessarily need to replace the entire lock. Rekeying may be all that’s needed to make the missing key unusable.
Too Many Different Keys
If you’re carrying separate keys for different doors, we may be able to simplify things. Compatible locks can often be rekeyed so one key operates multiple doors.
Rekeying vs. Changing Your Locks
These are two different services.
With rekeying, we modify the existing lock so a new key operates it.
With lock replacement, the existing hardware is removed and replaced with new hardware.
If your locks are working properly and your main concern is that someone may still have an old key, rekeying may be all you need. If the hardware is damaged, worn out, malfunctioning, or you simply want to upgrade your locks, replacement may make more sense.
When you call, tell us what you’re trying to accomplish and we’ll help you determine which option makes sense for your situation.

Can Multiple Locks Work With One Key?
In many cases, yes.
If your existing locks are compatible, we may be able to rekey several of them so one key operates multiple doors. For example, instead of carrying separate keys for the front door, back door and garage entry, compatible locks may be keyed alike.
We’ll inspect the existing hardware and let you know what can be done.

Rekey Locks FAQs
Do I need to replace my locks if I’ve lost a key?
Not necessarily. If the existing hardware is working properly, rekeying may allow you to keep it while making the lost key unusable.
Should I rekey the locks after moving into a new home?
Many homeowners choose to because there’s no easy way to know how many copies of the previous keys may still exist. Rekeying gives you control over which keys now work at the property.
Can you make all of my locks work with the same key?
In many cases, yes. It depends on whether the existing locks are compatible. We can inspect them and determine which ones can be keyed alike.
Can you rekey a lock without the original key?
In many situations, yes. Not having the existing key does not automatically mean the lock has to be replaced. The available options depend on the hardware and its condition.
Is rekeying the same as replacing a lock?
No. Rekeying modifies the existing lock so a different key operates it. Lock replacement means removing the existing hardware and installing new hardware.
Do you provide lock rekeying outside Tampa?
Yes. We provide mobile locksmith service throughout Tampa and many surrounding Tampa Bay communities. Call us with your location and we can confirm service in your area.
